This course offers a focused introduction to cybersecurity within South Africa’s financial services sector. As the industry becomes increasingly digital, FSPs face rising risks such as data breaches, ransomware, phishing and fraud—threats that can cause operational, regulatory and reputational harm.
Cybersecurity is now a strategic business priority, linked to client protection, governance and regulatory compliance under the FAIS Act, FSR Act and POPIA.
The course explains key cybersecurity principles—confidentiality, integrity, availability and accountability—along with common cyber threats and their impact on financial operations. It also introduces the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, whose five functions (Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond and Recover) align closely with the expectations of South Africa’s financial and data-protection regulatory framework and provide a practical structure for managing cyber risks.
You are required to watch the Financial Mind video on Cybersecurity in the South African Financial Sector, followed by two supplementary videos included in this course.
